General Manager (Part-Time)

Art to Ware is a wearable art gallery dedicated to fashion as creative expression. Through one-of-one garments, artist-made accessories, books, and objects, we champion sustainable fashion and independent designers while creating an inspiring retail experience. We are looking for an organized, creative, and entrepreneurial General Manager who is excited to help shape the next chapter of our growing business!

This is a part-time position (15-30 hours/week) based at our new store in Fulton Center in Lower Manhattan, with an anticipated start date in mid-July or early August.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Store Management—maintain a clean and organized store space, assess needs at the store and coordinate with the Store Owner to ensure all necessary supplies/services/etc. are procured, iterate and improve on existing store procedures in collaboration with the Store Owner

Store Growth—collaborate with the Store Owner to brainstorm and implement new strategies to increase sales/foot traffic/engagement at the store, work with the Store Owner to plan and execute store events, utilize and analyze sales data from Square

Team Management—create the store work schedule, coordinate with the Store Owner to approve time off requests, supervise team members and interns and provide feedback as needed, onboard and train new team members, calculate payroll

Inventory Management—update items and inventory in Square, price items on the sales floor, inspect new inventory as delivered for quality control, audit items for sale to ensure correct and consistent pricing, pickup deliveries from the store’s mailbox as needed, facilitate inventory returns as needed

Consignor and Vendor Relations—own communication with designers/artists/brands stocked at the store to represent the store and promote productive working relationships, calculate consignor payments, generate sales reports, route contracts as needed

Store Staffing—provide in-store staffing 1-3 days a week, balance providing excellent customer service and facilitating sales for customers while completing computer work and other in-store tasks

 

Required Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to learn and confidently use technology software and programs, including Square, Google applications (Docs and Sheets), Microsoft Word and Excel, Outlook 365

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a General Manager, Studio Manager, or a similar role

  • Event planning experience

  • Cash management experience

  • Tech experience with Square (or other similar POS) front- and back-end, Squarespace, GoDaddy

  • Knowledge of sewing, textiles, and upcycling

  • Interest in fashion, art, books, design, and culture

 

This is an hourly, part-time position with a pay rate of $22-24/hour (based on experience). The General Manager will primarily be scheduled to work in-person at the store and will need to periodically check in outside of scheduled hours and complete some remote work, as approved and needed. They will need to use their own laptop to complete computer work, at the store and remotely.
